3 Totally Doable Day Trips from London

London is magic. I could spend days just wandering the many neighborhoods, each with their own bit of personality, sights, and hidden gems. However, carving out some time to experience life outside of the hustle and bustle of arguably the world's top city: 100% worth it. While some of these destinations absolutely warrant a full weekend, I have successfully spent just a day in each of these places: a short in-and-out trip packed with charm, history, and stunning landscapes. Each a short (enough) train ride away, these are certifiably doable, even for a first-timer!
NOTE: While there are many other possible (and totally doable) day trips, I have only written about the places I have personally and successfully visited on a day trip from London. I'd love your recommendations in the comments for where to head next time! And stay tuned for a Part 2!
ANOTHER NOTE: Please remember that I am (in some opinions, unfortunately) American at heart. I am defining "totally doable" in that context; feel free to adapt these ideas/plans as your definition of doable sees fit! Cheers!
A guide to 3 totally doable day trips from London

1. Windsor
Just west of London, this historic town along the River Thames may ring some bells. Most famous for being home to Windsor Castle, one of the many residences of the British Royal Family, Windsor offers so much more beyond that (even though the castle itself is worth the trip!). Between the gorgeous walks and gardens, the shopping and cafes, the rich history and iconic landmarks, and even some theme parks/resorts, Windsor is a no-brainer for the perfect London-day-out!
Perfect for: historical tours, scenic walks, shopping, family-friendly activities and events
Estimated travel time: About 30 minutes to 1 hour from London Paddington Station, depending on routes/trains available.

2. Canterbury
Canterbury, with its stunning UNESCO World Heritage sites and medieval streets, feels a bit like stepping into a fairytale. Or, if you'll forgive me, The Canterbury Tales. Just about an hour from London, the stunning walks along the water, history steeped in every step, vibrant shops and markets, and incredible food options make the present-day train ride absolutely worth it.
Perfect for: historical tours, scenic walks, shopping, great food
Estimated travel time: About 1 hour from London St. Pancras International Station, depending on routes/trains available.

3. Rye
A medieval, cobble-stoned village that looks straight out of a movie: Rye has incredible food, tons of locally owned and curated shops to peruse, and a charmingly slow-paced atmosphere that makes for the perfect day trip of leisurely wandering, snacking, & shopping.
Perfect for: historical tours, shopping, great food
Estimated travel time: Just over 1 hour from London St. Pancras International Station, depending on routes/trains available.
There you have it, a guide to 3 totally doable day trips from London! Each destination is filled with its unique culture, history, and breathtaking scenery, making them perfect for a little getaway from the vibrant city.
